As you probably know if you are looking at this page at all, my name is Amanda Pollet. I am from Adrian, Michigan but I am currently living in Grand Rapids, MI, where I go to school at Grand Valley State University. This is my third year in college although it is my first year at GVSU. I have transfered twice–Started out at Spring Arbor University (also in MI) as an education major, then after I realized I hate school and probably didn't want to be teaching in one the rest of my life, I switched to sociology.
But at the time I still wasn't sure about what I wanted to do after school and decided to concentrate more on who I was going to be instead. Sooooo after a long and grueling decision making process, I ended up at Philidelphia Biblical University (PA) fall 2009 to do a one-academic-year study program called the Bible and Israel program. Basically we studied the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in three week modules in which we concentrated a lot on the Judaism and the cultural background implications thereof. It was the best thing ever. I even got to take a two week study tour with my class to Israel. I will never read the Bible the same again.
After I graduated from that program God pretty much tricked me into going back to school (because I really didn't want to) and I got put at GVSU. I'm studying behavioral science which is a mix between psychology and sociology. It's been great so far 🙂 And that is my extensive academic history. Sorry it's so long.
Some other things about me… I function through music. I play the guitar, the ukulele (my uke, Rosie, is probably my favorite object in the world) and my dad is building me a hammered dulcimer for my birthday. I know, THAT'S AWESOME. My dad is awesome. My family in general is awesome. I'm number three out of six. We have fun.
I like to run, read fictional books, paint, and make and eat guacamole.
I have been on two previous mission trips with my high school youth group to New Orleans. Once prior to Katrina, and once afterwards. Both were really great team-building experiences and times I wouldn't trade for anything. God taught me how to serve Him in that context in incredible ways.
Wrapping it up, I am SO excited to go to India. God put this country on my heart a long time ago. And I mean like, way-back-in-second-grade LONG time ago. My roommate and I started up an on-campus student organization against human trafficking this year and after I graduate I really want to work internationally with children and women who have come out of forced sex-labor situations. So basically this trip might be a taste of work similar to what I could be doing the rest of my life. I am really open to what God has to show me and do through me this Summer! And it's going to be awesome to share this time with all of you!

Haha oh my gosh PLEASE bring your uke…
Not going to lie, I had to look up what a “dulcimer” was. That’s way cool! And I’m with Caitlin on bringing Rosie!
Hi, Amanda. GSVU!?! I graduated from Saginaw Valley. Apparently our schools are rivals. Anyway, the ukulele is an awesome instrument.
Ah! Saginaw Valley! If I payed attention to sports at all, that would probably matter or something.
I would LOVE to bring my uke… i think music is a really powerful tool of communication, bonding, and healing.
I didn’t really care that much for their sports when I was there. I just went to get a degree in education.
Also that is so very true about music.
