1. Hallo! I’m Sarah Jayne Wohlgamuth. But just call me Sarah. It’s a mouthful, I know. And I won’t think less of you if you can’t remember, pronounce, or spell Wohlgamuth. The first day of school is always entertaining because I’m normally the last person on the roll and the professors never fail to say “Sarah Woo….” Haha. And I raise my hand, they ask me how to pronounce it (twice), and they nod their head and say they were close haha. It was actually a bonus word on a spelling test in 1st grade.

2. I currently live in Tyler, Texas (the belt buckle of the Bible belt). However, I’m from Flower Mound, Texas. It’s not as small as it sounds haha. It’s only 20 minutes north of DFW Airport and it’s smooshed between a bunch of suburbs of DFW.

3. I’m a Senior at UT Tyler, but graduate in December. (All of you who are trying to graduate on time, totally overrated!!) I’m majoring in English Literature and with a minor in Art History. I love both. I went into college wanting to be a Physical Therapist, but I quickly learned that requires a PhD and that’s WAY too much science for me! And English/Art History are really cool ways of learning about cultures, beliefs, and different time periods. So I really enjoy it.

4. Currently, I don’t have a job. I was blessed when my grandparents passed away a few years ago to receive enough money to live off of without having to get a job while in college.

5. My roommate and I each got a puppy in October and they’re adorable. So they take up a lot of time. Being an English major, my professors love assigning entire novels to read in a week or two, so one can most likely find me reading for class. My roommate and I went through the Gilmore Girls series last semester (and some of this semester) and are currently going through the 24 series. Amazing. I love riding my bike. A dream of mine would be to do the MS 150 or something crazy like that. I also love just hanging out with people at the apartment or coffee shops. Overall, I’m a pretty chill person and game for anything.

7. -Greensburg, Kansas. After a tornado wiped out the entire town, I went with a team from a church in Tyler to clean up and rebuild homes for Spring Break in 2008.
-Bogotá, Colombia. I went with a team from the same church in Tyler to a center for college students from local universities and taught English for two weeks in summer of 2008.
-Kraljevo, Serbia. For three weeks during Christmas break of 2008/2009, three other people and I went to Kraljevo with GoNow Missions for literature distribution. We handed out Bibles and tracts on the street, in the market, and door to door at apartment complexes. We also built relationships with friends in coffee shops.
-Southeast Asia. Last summer, for two months, three other girls and I went with GoNow Missions and traveled to Southeast Asia to help out at an English center. We taught English and built relationships with the intention of sharing the Gospel and encouraging the few believers.

8. I’m so excited to work with these women. This injustice has been laid on my heart for over a year now, and I’m tired of blending in with the American church and just talking about it. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get dirty with these women. I’m also pumped to spend the summer with all of you girls. After reading some bios and doing some good ol’ Facebook stalking, I’m humbled to have been chosen among such an amazing group of sisters to serve with. I’m also excited to go to India. I know the culture is full of corruption and injustice, but I also see beauty and hope among the ashes. I’m honored to be a member of the culture for two months.

After serving for two months last summer, we ended up with some disunity within the team. So naturally, I’m nervous about that, especially with such a large group. It’s all about communication and thinking beyond yourself, ladies!!! I’m also nervous about the spiritual warfare that can/most likely will occur. Last summer, we experienced some pretty intense warfare, but it’s amazing how powerful the Holy Spirit is!

Upon finding this trip, it took me a while to apply. Throughout the entire process, I just kept praying for God to make it so obvious that this experience was because of Him and not me. It has been so wonderful how the Lord has confirmed this trip to me. I know there are going to be many times when I won’t know what to say or do, but I firmly believe those are the times when the Lord works best through us. A good friend once told me, “God doesn’t choose the prepared. He prepares the chosen.” What a beautiful promise to cling to!

  1. I have many things to say in response, but for now I’ll keep it short.

-I love Gilmore Girls! I have all 7 seasons on DVD!
-Oscar Wilde wrote “A Portrait of Dorian Gray” didn’t he?
    -I’m definitely a puppy/dog person as well!
-Facebook stalking is one of my favorite things=)

The spiritual warfare is definitely a scary thing, but you’re so right about being able to see the wondrous work of Christ. It’s such a cool thing that He wants to use us and that He does prepare us and He promises us that He’s right here (there..everywhere).

Lack of communication and disunity can really be detrimental for a community. It’s a bummer you experienced that with your previous team, and while there is probably going to be some issues that come up (the whole imperfection thing can kind of foster that=)), hopefully as a team we can continue to refocus on Christ who is that perfect example.

  2. “God doesn’t choose the prepared. He prepares the chosen.”
Thank you so much for sharing those words. I love the quote! It sums up very well what I have been feeling like throughout this whole process of God breaking my heart for what breaks His and me feeling inadequate to do be His agent in healing brokenness. It’s wonderful to rely on Him in knowing that we really aren’t capable, but He certainly is and that’s what matters!

  3. Ok….crazy! My parents just moved to Novi Sad, Serbia…most people have never even heard of the place! Ill be visiting there before the trip! soooooooo crazy!

  4. I saw T.S. Eliot and was really excited. Amazing poet. Also come on Holy Spirit! Keep speaking into unity and against the weapons of the enemy. God is doing to do some amazing things through your team in India. I am excited to hear what happens.
